I never was one for New Year’s resolutions. In fact, I usually just make a little promise to myself that I’ll try to do better (at everything). I know it’s vague, but it works for me, mostly because there’s no guilt and no failing. It’s just trying harder. On the other hand, I do love drawing up a specific list of my photography goals on a yearly basis, and I'm very serious about accomplishing them. These goals are organized into different categories (education, business development, personal projects, etc.), and I always enjoy thinking of ways I can improve my photography and my business. This year however, there was one category which gave me extra pause, and that’s the category of ‘giving back’.
For the past 2 years I have been honored to donate photo sessions to ARC, the community organization which is behind Nuns’ Island’s Espace Famille, The Farmer’s Market and the annual Mother’s Day Essay Contest. (To see the photo session given to last year’s winner, click here.) I really love giving back to this non-profit organization that does so much good for local families, but this year, I decided I wanted to do better.
So this is what's new for 2015: I will continue to donate a free session to ARC’s Mother’s Day Contest, but in addition, I will donate 10% of any session booked through Espace Famille back to Espace Famille. Simply put, if you are a member of Espace Famille, and you book a photo session with me, 10% of the proceeds from your session will go back to Espace Famille. You get amazing photos of your family, Espace Famille gets a much-needed donation as a result of your photo shoot, and I get to do better. It's a happy new year for all of us!
p.s. Thank you to Ugo Oparah and Espace Famille for generously allowing me to display a few of my photos in your space at the Elgar Centre. I could tell you how great they look, or I could do even better and show you. Here you go:
